Labour Law

Labour Law refers to the body of law that governs employment, remuneration, working conditions, labour unions and industrial relations.

Labour Law is an important part of any company’s operations. Considering the dynamic legislative environment, compliance with changing labour laws is an ever-present challenge for businesses.

In Malaysia, while the relations between employers and workmen and their trade unions and settlement of disputes arising therefrom are governed by Industrial Relations Act 1967, in the state of Sabah, manual labours and persons with wages of not exceeding rm 2,500 per month are regulated to a large extent by the Sabah Labour Ordinance (Cap. 67) and the Labour (Termination and Lay-Off Benefits) (Sabah) Rules 2008.

Our team has solid practical experience in managing issues arising from labour matters and helping businesses in their relations with employees and state authorities.

In addition to advising our clients on their compliance obligations and risk management, we have also acted for our clients in various contentious Labour Matters in both the Industrial Court and the Civil Courts.
